Watercooler segment on Good Morning America
"GMA" was chatting about a new Web site —
googleidol.com — during today's "Watercooler."
The site features lip-synchers from around the globe, and
after three weeks of competition, the field has narrowed
down to two groups of finalists — two Dutch teenage
girls who "sing" Aretha Franklin's "Respect,"
and two boys from China lip-synching to the Backstreet Boys.
The site is the brainchild of Aussie Ben Petro, 27, who
was inspired while watching Google Video on his computer
at work. More than 400,000 people have visited the site,
and about 170,000 have voted since March 1.
The first official "Gidol" will be crowned next
week, and companies are offering prizes in return for site
sponsorship. Voting is open through Saturday.
